Director’s Message

Welcome to HamAva! Here we bring our voices together with the goal of improving our lives and the lives of the people who trust us to work with them.

I believe that psychoanalysis provides us with a unique way of understanding our minds. In a world that is so rushed, polarized, conflicted, torn apart by power struggles and confused by rapidly changing ways of life, taking the time, fifty minutes at a time, to sit with someone, and reflect on one’s internal world, deeply and thoughtfully, is a remarkable opportunity. In this kind of a setting one is not simply acquiring information, or gathering knowledge, but has the possibility of arriving at wisdom. Understanding one’s mind, understanding the truth about pain, understanding and experience the possibility of healing and creativity, allows us to bring our full humanity to expression. This is what we strive to learn how to do at HamAva. This is what we try to bring to the people we work with.

As the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh, has said, “If you are not there inside there is no real contact with the world outside. The way out is in.”
